ARTIST STATEMENT:

An avid traveller and gardener, I am constantly inspired by my surroundings. While the trend is to bring the indoors out, painting my feathered friends, florals and landscapes allows me to bring the outdoors in. I seek to capture these precious creatures on canvas; showcasing not only their grace, natural and vibrant beauty but also their various personalities. Drama on the canvas is created by a combination of an out of focus backdrop juxtaposed with the main subject at the forefront, realistically painted in detail with brush and gestural palette knife work.  This manipulation of a variety of textures,  as well as working wet on wet and in the moment, lends credibility to the image being portrayed. The unexpected stroke of juicy and bold colour added in a branch, petal, or in a feather keep the paintings fresh, modern and evocative. The mix of representational with some abstract creates a unique style to a traditional host of subjects.

ARTIST PROFILE:

Damaris Abush has been passionate for the arts since childhood. Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, she was drawing at an early age with pastels. Her formal painting career began with her classes at The Art Gallery of Ontario. When she is not travelling, she is in her studio or the outdoors.  After a brief introduction to watercolours, she found that her true medium was in oils.  Her painting provided a creative outlet from juggling a demanding career for many years in the Music Industry and Motherhood. She now focuses on her art. Her paintings are found in private collections in Canada, USA and Australia.
